Citrulline Malate is an amino acid, but not an essential amino acid. Its name is derived from 'Citrullus', the Latin word for watermelon, from which it was first isolated. Watermelon is also the richest source of citrulline. But, the quantity present doesn't amount to much. One gram of fresh watermelon contains 2.1 milligrams (or 0.0021%) citrulline. To get enough Citrulline and to realize its performance enhancing benefits you would have to eat so many watermelons and apples you would probably get sick.
